This post is inspired by the Wicked Wednesday prompt to write a letter to my ten year old self. I wasn’t sure for ages whether to join in but eventually decided to give it a go.

Dear Me,

I know life is strange right now and you are starting to feel unsettled by many things. I can’t pretend that life is all going to be good – some of it is going to be appalling. You will be hurt and confused. You will feel lost and adrift from all others due to things outside your control. Please know that you are strong and nothing that happens will break you. You are just starting on a very rocky journey to becoming one of the most awesome people I know.

In your very near future the abuse is going to get worse and come from more than one person. You will survive it. You will try to tell and you will not be made to feel listened to. You will give up.

Soon you will be moved hundreds of miles to where, not only will you be the stranger, but you will also be bullied for the way you talk. People won’t help you to settle in because you will have developed a self-reliant exterior and no-one will realise how vulnerable and scared you are. Don’t worry though. You will learn to hide that shyness and adapt to any situation – that is an amazing skill.

I have a few words of advice for you. Keep going and learn to trust yourself. Look after your emotions instead of squashing them and chaining them up inside. Look at yourself in the mirror every day and smile. You are not invisible.

Have fun, grab life and go for it.

See you with all the scars that make you me in a few decades time.

Love from Me.

This is such a beautiful remark. I wish we all loved ourselves back when we were ten the same way we love ourselves now. But I guess we had to go through the hardship to be who we are today.
