Update: There is some exciting news coming soon. For now, there is an excerpt of this story here.

So the wonderful and very awesome Oleander Plume posted this story contest. I giggled at the list of prompts and knew that I was looking forward to reading the entries. Then the unexpected happened and my cruel kind, thoughtful and encouraging man decided that I needed more confidence at writing fiction and made it a task that I choose a prompt and write an entry. I am extremely glad that Oleander extended her deadline so that I have had time to complete it. After you have read this one, pop over to Oleander’s blog and read all the others.

The way that his eyes shone with energy when we exchanged our stories of what we had been up to.The buzz of energy from planning adventures, followed by the later intimacy as we talked more and more. I didn’t believe for one second that he was really sick. I’d be prepared to bet that if anyone checked on him, he would be primping himself for an evening out. Now, he wasn’t here and I had to cover his last massage of the day. Reluctantly, I sent the message to tell Mike what was happening before placing my phone and wallet back in my locker…
