I got myself completely tied up in knots earlier writing about my happy place.

I started by saying that it was with my man but then also adding the clarification that it is also with my children. Then I got into a further knot about the different facets of happiness and how they fit different aspects of my life.

The trouble with tying myself in knots is that it isn’t always great to see from the outside.

I needed to find a bit of mental space to regroup and work out which bit mattered today.

So, without even thinking about it, I went to one of my most important happy places.

I love making things. I love baking, cooking, crafting, building things, whip making and drawing. The common theme of all of these is that they fill my soul and quiet my mind. The practical process and actions are utterly calming and absorbing. Strangely enough, being absorbed in making, frees up my mind and allows it to wander and gives me a chance to think without pressure.

Today, my happy place was also filled with happy memories. The photo that I worked from was one that I took on a trip with my man and my youngest last week. We had such a wonderful day that was filled with almost orgasmic delight at the animals we saw.

Today’s activity allowed me to relive that happiness while being totally absorbed in the creative process.

My happy place isn’t a place, it is any time that I am making something.

Today’s happy place has made me feel good and I am very proud of the results.

  1. Such a lovely painting you have made, but what I love more is that you found your happy place right inside you, that you actually carry it with you every day and can go to it whenever you want 🙂

    Lovely post!
