As a deeply kinky person who, whilst being a switch, finds a deep and grounding core of myself as a submissive, this quote is at first reading very challenging to me. I asked a new friend for suggestions of quotes and this was the one that she provided.
This quote is deeply true. There are people who I submit to, and whose permissions are fundamental to me. However that is a negotiated power exchange and my pleasure is pure, powerful, and dynamic because it is my permission that is at the heart of those interactions. I have a huge obedience kink. I have a huge drive to provide and ensure pleasure to other people. But my pleasure is not dependent on the permission of another. Not even when I am on my knees and begging. It is my pleasure to plead and beg. It is my pleasure to be humiliated. It is my pleasure to be degraded.

That is such a powerful image and my first reading of the quote had me going, hmmm but then seeing your interpretation of it totally flipped that for me. I guess it is about autonomy and the moment you have, then you are definitely not poor in those moments but really the exact opposite

I’m right here with you. That quote is very powerful and whilst I also submit to others, I will never allow someone else to dictate what is or isn’t a pleasure for me.
What a gorgeous image … and that quote really got me thinking. So important to give ourselves permission for pleasure especially if that pleasure comes from our submission.
